What Does Whey Protein Do?

February 21st, 2009

Here is a very quick breakdown of what whey protein does…

Protein levels in the body are depleted during workouts (and whey protein contains amino acids).

We need both essential and non-essential amino acids as they fuel the rebuilding of muscle, and are a precursor necerassy for it.

Whey protein happens to contain these amino acids at the right level for rapid intake and usage. This increases both hormonal and cellular response if taken right after a workout. As such, it helps to build muscle, reduces muscle deterioration, and enhances endurance.

The benefit of whey protein is that it contains branched-chain amino acids.

These have the ability to be metalbolised directly into the muscle instead of the liver like other amino acids, thus improving your bodybuilding or fitness training.
